A common misconception today is there are only introverts and extroverts. However, there are also some people that fall somewhere in the middle of that scale, called ambiverts. These people aren’t entirely introverted or extroverted. To find out if you’re one of the confirmed ambivert, answer these ten questions.
1. Do you identify with characteristics of both introverts and extroverts?
It may seem obvious, but if you’re reading about introverts and agree with everything that describes them and then does the same while reading about extroverts, there’s a good chance that you may be a confirmed ambivert.
2. Do you long for alone time but also enjoy social events?
Like introverts, ambiverts need some alone time to unwind and relax, especially at the end of a long day. However, they’re also like extroverts and love going out and being social, usually with friends, but strangers will also do just fine.
3. Do you know when to trust someone?
Knowing when to trust someone comes more natural for ambiverts than it does extroverts and introverts. This is because extroverts tend to believe everyone far too quickly while introverts do the opposite. They approach relationships with too much caution and take a long time to trust someone.
4. Do you struggle with knowing what to do when stressed?
When an introvert feels stressed, they seek alone time to recharge. When an extrovert gets stressed, they look for socialization to feel energized again. Since ambiverts fall in the middle, it can be difficult to know if they should be alone or with people when they feel stressed.
5. Are you able to handle comfortably nearly anywhere?
Ambiverts are incredibly adaptable which means that they can easily be just as comfortable in a busy club as they are curled up alone with a book. This differs significantly from both extroverts and introverts who prefer one type of environment over the other.
6. Do you have a hard time making decisions?
Extroverts and introverts make decisions for very different reasons, so when you’re an ambivert and stuck in the middle, it can make your decision-making process difficult. For this reason, indecisiveness is a good indicator of a confirmed ambivert.
7. Are you great at communicating with others?
To be great at communicating, you need to be able to speak as well as listen. Extroverts tend to be great at talking while introverts excel at looking. Since ambiverts are in the middle, they have both skills and are therefore excellent at communicating.
8. Are you an entrepreneur or salesman?
Because ambiverts possess the leadership skills of an introvert and the ability to work with people of an extrovert, they make great entrepreneurs and sales associates. If you even have this mindset of being an entrepreneur, then you may be a confirmed ambivert.
9. Do you work well both in a group and on solo projects?
Extroverts love working as part of a team while introverts thrive on solo projects. An ambivert, on the other hand, does well in both types of projects. This makes it easy for them to work in nearly any kind of setting since they do great no matter what kind of project they’re doing.
10. Are your friends a mixture of extroverts and introverts?
Because ambiverts can get along well with anyone, they often have friends on either side of the spectrum. This differs from both extroverts and introverts who tend to be drawn to other people that are similar to them.
If you answered “yes” to most of these questions, there’s a good chance that you are a confirmed ambivert, even if your personality test told you something different. Embrace your ambivert ways as they often have many of the advantages of both extroverts and introverts and fewer of the drawbacks since they balance themselves out.
