7 Behaviors Someone Displays Because They Have Been Cheated On

when you have been cheated on

Break-ups are one of the most substantial burdens a heart ever has to bear. It’s ten times worse when you’ve been cheated on. It’s a situation many don’t understand until they’ve been through it themselves.

You feel betrayed above all else – someone you loved and gave your all to destroyed everything you had together.

They made you feel like you weren’t good enough, and now, you’re a changed person. Without even realizing it, your attitude will have changed in a way that’s visible to everyone else.

You probably don’t know you’re displaying these seven behaviors, but if you are, it’s often a symptom of being cheated on.

1. You have a negative attitude towards the opposite gender

You treat every person of the opposite sex as an enemy. After the break-up, you began to see each little flaw in your partner. Of course, it’s almost impossible to forget their biggest flaw – they’re a cheater.

Now, you’ve begun to project your anger at your ex onto every person of their gender.

2. You close yourself off

When you’re talking to someone new, or someone you don’t necessarily trust, you won’t let them get closer than they need to be. You’re afraid to get hurt, and shutting people out seems like the only way forwards.

You’re very selective about who you’ll open up to, and for the most part, it’s someone of the same gender. You have your reservations about the opposite sex now, so it only seems right that you close them all out.

3. You overanalyze every situation

It’s a new-found suspiciousness you never knew you had in you. When someone shows romantic interest in you, you wonder what their intentions are.

When someone tries to get close, you wonder if they have a partner waiting for them back home. You see the worst in people because you saw the darkest side of your ex when they cheated on you. Now, you can’t help but question everyone else as well.

4. You are bitter

You feel a little angry at the world right now. Seeing a happy couple reminds you of what happened. Seeing a friend fight over something petty makes you want to roll your eyes.

You feel like no one understands the hurt you’re feeling, and it irritates you when people claim to know what you’re going through.

5. You see warning signs that aren’t there

When you start dating someone new, you look for signs that they’re seeing someone else behind your back. You see them texting someone and assume they have another person on the go.

You don’t hear from your new beau for a few hours, and you know that as a sign that they’re cheating. You see signs that aren’t there because you’re expecting the worst-case scenario. It’s the only way you feel you can build up a defense.

6. You have zero self-confidence

Your ex made you feel worthless, and now every time you look in the mirror, you see a warped vision of yourself. You pick flaws where there aren’t any, and you assume everyone sees you the way your ex did.

You don’t believe in your abilities anymore, or your looks, or your feelings. Everything you knew was betrayed, so why should you?

7. You’re stuck in the place you were after it happened

You live in the past. You’re still stuck at the moment where you found out what your ex did. You’ve let it take over your life to the point where it consumes every move you make, and every thought you have.

You can’t move on because the memory of what happened to you has rooted deep in you.

When you’ve been cheated on, there’s no easy way to move on. But once you can see how you’ve been affected by the break-up, you can begin to work on your behaviors.

Work on letting people back in, and pushing out the problematic people. Remind yourself that you deserve better than what you were handed.

Do whatever you need to do to get yourself back to normal, and re-learn how to be happy without your toxic ex.
