7 Things I Wish I Could Tell My Younger Self!

Sometimes, I wish I can go back in time and execute my life differently. I feel nostalgic about the avalanche of opportunities I had in those times.

Life teaches its lessons at a high cost. I wish I knew a fraction of things that I know now at a younger age, life would have been easier and may have resulted better. These are lessons that no book, no degree, no classroom and no lecture addresses and yet these are pieces of intelligence that have changed my life.

1) Focus on one thing at a time

Multitasking is not the best ways to improve your productivity. No matter how much you try, when you multitask a lot, you are actually hurting your goal and yourself both. Find out what is your passion and what you love to do and then completely focus on it till you make it successful. Trying to do everything and grasping every opportunity will make you overworked, irritable and you will lose all of it.

So, focus on one thing at a time, take things one by one and be sure that opportunities will keep coming up. This is the same principle as mindfulness. Being present in the moment you are living with your complete self and having full concentration in the present moment helps you achieve a tremendous deal.

2) Trust your instincts

Your instincts are nature’s way of communication; I would like to advise my younger self that. No matter what other people tell you if you don’t feel good and things don’t seem to be right; they probably are not right anyway. Your instincts are stronger than any degree or any logic in the world.

3) Listen more than you speak

Listening is a great skill for both your personal and professional life. Develop your listening skills to be inclusive of everything the speaker has to offer. From the words that she utters to the tone and pitch of voice, facial expressions, body language, surroundings, and perspective. Listening involves a lot more than just words. Listen to the words uttered as well as the hidden message. Listening to me is like absorbing every bit of intelligence shared.

4) Be grateful and forgive

Be grateful every day. Make it a point to be thankful for every success, every person who helped, everything you were able to manage well, and every piece of knowledge imparted to do and for every experience experienced. Also, develop the capacity to forgive, to forgive others as well as to forgive yourself. Keeping the grudge in you will only darken your inside and beating yourself up will only elevate your self-doubt.

5) Start saving early

Delaying your saving goals till you start making big money is a mistake many young people do. When you are young, you probably have fewer responsibilities and can make big savings. Small consistent savings over the years will save heaps of money for you. Small little contribution does matter in the long run.

6) Acknowledge career mistakes

Mistakes are great opportunities to learn and grow. If you make a wrong career move and things don’t seem well, there is no point in sticking there and suffering. Quickly recovering from the mistake and moving on is a better option. Just be sure that the feeling of not fitting comes from genuine reasons and not from superficial stuff.

7) Things to consider before accepting a job

Your proposed salary and designation do matter when you accept a job, but these are not the only things to consider. There is a lot more. Always analyze the room for growth in the company for you and the possibility for the company itself to grow in future. Read your boss’ personality, collect information about your teammates and try to have an insight into the working environment of a company. Money does have its value, but you also have to satisfy your inner self so also look out for these factors.
