Okay, let’s be honest. A lot of people get emotional during movies…and also books and music and podcasts. Some of them are ashamed of it, especially men.
It is wrong to think that crying shows weakness because it shows strength.
It takes a powerful person to show emotions and crying only means empathy, which is a great quality in a person.
Empathic people consider others’ feelings, and because of that, they are great team players. It is good to work with them and build a life with them because they will always consider your feelings as well.
It is important to remember, that all of us have different stories and backgrounds. Some of which we don’t know or might not be able to understand. But it takes strength to try your best to put yourself in other people’s shoes and try to know where they are coming from.
Being empathic also means that other’s can count on you. You are not only strong for yourself, but also for others. Being strong does not mean that you do not feel pain, it says that you are strong enough to deal with it. Others might want to hide or run away, but the strong ones stick and deal with stressful situations.
Caring about others is one of the sexiest quality in a person. Crying during movies shows that one can identify with the characters and feel their pain.
This shows that a person is not egoistic or narcissistic.
One can cry during movies for many reasons: first and most obvious one is that you feel sorry for the character. But you can also get emotional if the character experiences something you have experienced in your life…and seeing that on a screen brings back all the memories.
Also, one can tear up because the film is just so brilliantly made. This is called Stendhal Syndrome, and it means that some work of art has moved someone to the point of physical and emotional symptoms.
Some people are more affected by movies, shows or art than others. Seeing a good film might be a rollercoaster ride, which forces you to live through many different emotions (good and bad). And this also takes a lot of strength.
Being empathic and caring is not the “strength” many people think of when they hear the word. But the mental strength is even more important and complex than the physical one. So do not look for people, who can lift heavy weights, look for people, who cry at movies.
