In our world today, we want to feel as good about ourselves as possible. This means that we are constantly surrounding ourselves with people who make us feel our best. Now, researchers have found that it is possible that the friends who are mean to us just may be the ones that are the best for us.
Researchers have found some new information about how our mean friends can actually have a more positive effect on us. Adverse feelings that these friends share with us may actually be very helpful to us when we use their advice in a particular situation. A lot of our closest friends may even try to scare us out of a situation, which could also seem like a mean thing to do until we see it a few years down the road. These friends are genuinely trying to help us see things differently.
We all know that one person who can never seem to have a good day and seems to fill your head with nothing but negative thoughts when you ask for advice. This new study shows us that it may actually benefit us to keep that person around.
The study used different video games to help determine how people react to specific situations. The researchers paid particular attention to which game the participants chose. If they picked a zombie game, their focus was on fear-based situations whereas the other players choose a game that focused on the end goal more than the fearful situations.
With these results, the team of researchers found that people do have different emotions about problem-solving and how to achieve their goals. According to this study, our closest friends are always there for us even when they are mean to us or don’t agree with how we are handling a situation.
There are many characteristics that your friends should possess no matter how nice they are to you. They should be trustworthy. You should be able to trust them with any secrets and never be afraid that they will share them with others. You want a true friend that will never stab you in the back.
A friend who is non-judgemental is another you should have in your life. If they are genuinely trying to help you with a problem, they will not judge you for the choices that you have made in your life or the situation. They will listen and help you in any way that they can.
Perhaps, it’s tough love or just the urge to be a mean person, but your friends are here to push you to be your best. If they didn’t want to help you, they would give you the same advice each time. It is up to you to decide if they are worthy of keeping around or if you can’t handle the advice they give to you.
